Guest Blogger: Editor Jennifer Moody "The English Language"

The English Language

A friend sent the above image to me today and I laughed myself to tears. If English is your first language, as it is mine, you probably don’t think too much of it. But you have to admit, especially after reading this … our language IS pretty crazy. Kudos to anyone who learns it as a second language. I know I wouldn’t want that challenge.

So on this note, my guest blog for today is more of a suggestion…
Be patient with anyone whose first language is not English. Whether it’s a verbal interaction or a written one – if they’re struggling with it – think of this blog and be considerate. God created so many languages for His people, and for the most part we’ve learned to communicate with each other pretty well. Sometimes I think He did this to challenge us, and maybe to test us a little … our compassion, our kindness, our tolerance.
"Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can read."  ~ Mark Twain
Be blessed, y’all.

My Summer Blog Series - "DIARY OF A WIMPY PLANT"

"SUMMERTIME SERIES"

DIARY OF A WIMPY PLANT

Ok in my boredom today, I glanced over at my plant (that I have sitting by the backdoor for extra sunlight) and imagined what this plant could be thinking if a plant was able to think, lol. What started out in my head, turned into a micro-mini story I titled, "Diary of a Wimpy Plant." Most of it was written out of my endless frustration with this plant as you will read below! LOL ;-)

God Bless!

DIARY OF A WIMPY PLANT

"My leaves turn pale with envy as I sit and stare out at the bustling beauty that I so long to enjoy. Only separated by a few millimeters of a seemingly clear prison glass wall, the millions of thin, short erect minions, the humans call ‘grass’, only seem to tease and taunt me daily as they sway back and forth in the wind. Aren’t I as dependable and strong as the minions?!

My owner has confined me to a place where I face an uncertain future!

Have I been sentenced to death?

I have stood by and watched as others have faced the same fate, but succumb to the realities of being kept inside. With the exception of that creepy prickly vine that just sits in the corner. She enthusiastically accepts the title of, “houseplant.”  She laughs at my failure to grow and sprout as she does. Her limbs get pruned and she grows her vines even longer than before. I get poked, groped, prodded and snipped, but the limbs from my body shrivel and die, never to be seen or sprouted again. Such horror…yet, the snarky vine just sits and scoffs.

I have assured my owner that I can make it, I can succeed. I can be one of the statistics that have defied the odds and championed the harsh elements of the outdoors.

Sure, I have had a few bouts outside where some pesky leaf miners have nearly eaten me alive, the rain storms almost drowned me, and the sun had nearly burned my skin to the point of sudden death. But it wasn’t my fault! I insist I was born a wimpy plant!

…but I know that I can do it, I can survive if given the chance again...If only given another opportunity! But still instead, I sit here staring out the prison glass wall as the minions continue to taunt and tease me, swaying back and forth in the wind."

My Summer Blog Series - "A 'Lion' of a Time"

"SUMMERTIME SERIES"

A 'Lion' of a Time

The past week was pretty much uneventful with the exception of the family and I attending the Broadway musical stage play, "The Lion King." What a spectacular production! This would mark my third time seeing the musical (I never seem to get tired of it!). Although my 3 year old knows the movie version almost verbatim (and I blogged about it back in Oct/2011 at this  LINK), it was the first time she had seen the stage play. What a thrill it was to see her excitement as she watched all the characters come to life on stage!

Here are some pics...

We are about to enter the theater to see the stage play, "The Lion King."
As you can see on my 3 yr old's face (admiring the poster, lol), she is super excited!

Waiting for the play to start...I snapped a quick photo!
I almost got in trouble for taking a picture inside the theater.

"Say Cheese!"

An old friend of ours (who was also the photographer at our wedding) that we ran into at the play.

My little Chloe (the 3 yr old) really enjoyed the stage play...so much so that she wanted to go up and say "Hi" to the characters on stage. Of course we had to convince her she was NOT allowed to do that. But my daughter was more than satisfied with YELLING out the words, "Hi LION KING!" to the actors during the play, coupled with singing the songs right along with them. LOL! Gotta love a child's innocent enthusiasm!! :-)

My Summer Blog Series - "My Child's Need of Repair"

"SUMMERTIME SERIES"

My Child's Need of Repair

It's not as if our summer wasn't busy enough, but nothing can slow you down more than having a child with a medical need! My 3 year old, Chloe, was born with an umbilical hernia. Not too uncommon as I too was born with one. I have read that about 10% of children are born with umbilical hernias and about 90% of them heal on their own by the time the child reaches the age of 3 or 4 (as did mine). Chloe's pediatrician had advised us early on that if Chloe's hernia didn't heal itself by the time she reached 3 years old, he would recommend a surgical consult for an Umbilical Hernia Repair.

Well Chloe turned 3 years old this year and as predicted, her pediatrician advised us to get a surgical consult because her hernia had not repaired itself. Although I was a little apprehensive about consulting with a surgeon (and the thought of my young child having to undergo surgery), we already knew it was something we had to do, especially for the long term benefits if nothing else.

Chloe's outpatient surgery was yesterday and I am happy to report that she came through it like a champ! She is still in recovery mode, but she is resting fine at home. Thanks to those good ole meds that were prescribed, she slept most of the day yesterday. She is doing a lot better today than yesterday. I asked her if she remembered some aspects of the ordeal, but she doesn't remember any of it. I am thankful to Dr. Bloss, her surgeon, and the rest of the medical staff for doing a great job on her surgery and making Chloe feel at ease with the whole process. And of course, I am forever thankful to our Lord and Savior for giving me peace to know that everything would turn out fine. Thank you Lord!

Here are some pics...

The toy squirrel the surgical center staff gave Chloe before her procedure.
She still opted for "Puppy" that she had brought, lol.

Resting at home, Chloe and "Puppy" after the surgery.
She was still in a zombie-like state...

She slept most of the day with her puppy by her side.

Today Chloe was well enough to venture outside in the backyard and eat leftover watermelon from our 4th of July party. What a trooper!

What a difference a day makes...and meds! :-)

Smiling again! :-)

There is nothing more precious and heartwarming than seeing your child smile, especially after undergoing a medical procedure. Chloe's smile had disappeared for awhile after the surgery and I missed seeing it. Now it's back and mommy is happy again...and smiling! :-)

God Bless!

Celebrate ~ Good Times!

For the fourth of July, my husband and I celebrated by hosting a get-together with family and friends at our home. I don't need to tell you what a great time we had (which we did, lol), I'll let the pictures show you! :-)

Yes that's me, holding my banana pudding! YUM

A pic of some of the ladies and the dishes they brought.

"Fruit or cake?"
I think most of us opted for the sweets (as evidenced with the cupcake in hand, lol)

The ladies...
Kids enjoying the backyard.

More backyard fun!

The new outdoor set my husband just purchased for the 4th of July.

Friendly game of cards!

I think my husband and his partner (my dad) eventually lost this round.

"The grandmas"

My 3 year old showing the guys a thing or two about cards, lol!

Can't forget the fireworks!

New Bible Verse ~ Sunday, July 1st

New Bible verse posted as of Sunday, July 1st. Have a great week!

James 1:5-6 (NLT)

5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. 6 But when you ask Him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.
